Root Canals

When the nerve of the tooth becomes infected, root canal treatment can save the tooth. You may realize you have an infected tooth because it´s sensitive to hot or cold, it causes swelling or pain, or it gives you a bad taste in the mouth. You may also be unaware you have an infected tooth because you show no symptoms at all.

Though some teeth without cavities can get infected, deep cavities are the main cause of infection. A blow to the tooth may also cause the nerve of the tooth to die and then become infected.

Years ago, an infected tooth had to be extracted, but today, we can save your tooth with root canal treatment. Root canal treatment and restoring the tooth usually involves 3 steps:

First: We remove the infection to promote healing.
Second: We place filling materials in the root canals.
Third: We place a crown on the tooth to protect it from fracturing.
